Tempus LS iPad Case
iSimulate
The Tempus LS iPad Case is a training device for health care organisations, configured and constructed around an iPad Mini and iSimulate’s REALITi app. The custom casework replicates the physical and tactile qualities of the industry-leading Philips Tempus LS defibrillator, providing for realistic training in controlled and safe environments.

Primary issues were visual, tactile and operational realism at a price point made feasible by modification of an existing hardware platform.
-
The design process began with hands-on examination and documentation of the Tempus LS, paying special attention to critical touchpoints, textures and tactile elements. Next was development of a detailed CAD model crafted around the spatial and practical constraints of the iPad format.
Challenges included incorporation of an additional internal battery and Wi-Fi module, which were neatly concealed within a captive sliding drawer. To enhance realism, iPad charge ports and plugs were hidden behind discrete rubber hatches, while dummy ports were created to mirror those accepting cables and defibrillator pads on the real device. Iterative rapid prototypes and field testing in medical establishments enabled early design improvement, resulting a product almost indistinguishable from the real thing.

The Tempus LS case has been extensively shown at trade events throughout the world. Industry feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many medical professionals mistaking the simulation for the original Tempus LS. The product is now in the early stages of commercial production.
